Madhesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh has said that child marriage is being tolerated in Madhesh due to the mentality of considering daughters as a burden. Signing the letter of commitment against child marriage on Wednesday, Chief Minister Singh is of the opinion that child marriage can be eradicated only through education and awareness.

Chief Minister Singh signed the letter of commitment in a meeting with the representatives of 'Just Rights for Children in Nepal' and 'Base Nepal' and the students and teachers of Saraswati Mavi of Janakpur, who are campaigning for Nepal free of child marriage.

Child marriage is a social problem and a legal crime and expressed commitment to end child marriage. He said that the participation of girls in education is low due to poverty.
