Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah has expressed his displeasure saying that it is difficult to get justice from the courts of Nepal on time. He expressed his displeasure over the delay in the delivery of justice in Nepal at the inauguration program of 'Judicial Committee Direction' organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Tuesday.
Mayor Shah also said that he hoped that the establishment of local government would provide speedy justice and complaints were coming to the judicial committee of the local government.
'It is more difficult to get justice in time than to get justice in our country . Since it is a local government close to home, Nepali people come to the local government with the hope that they will get justice quickly,' he said. He said that the District, High and Supreme Courts should deliver justice as quickly as possible by the local judicial committee. He urged the courts to deliver justice on time as if delaying justice is no justice.
Supreme Court Judge Sapna Malla Pradhan said that the reason for the increase in demand for justice is that injustice and violence are increasing everywhere. "Injustice anywhere, violence anywhere is a terrible thing for justice," said Judge Malla.
Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, who is also the coordinator of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Judicial Committee, said that justice should be fair and accessible. "Every person has a strong role to build a peaceful and conflict-free society," she said.
Dangol informed that 83 hearings have been held so far by the Judicial Committee of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and justice has been delivered. He said that he also stressed on the reconciliation of disputes that came to the local judicial committee. She informed that while 608 disputes were resolved by the
committee, 326 disputes were resolved and 141 disputes were settled. She said that out of the 132 disputes that were decided due to the failure of reconciliation, 15 disputes were resolved by the appeals level and 13 of the judicial committee's decisions were upheld by the appeals level.
