UML vice-president Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal' is in controversy and discussion after he said that the Maoist war was 'violence'. After Thapa, one of the leaders of Maoist's 10-year armed war, made such a comment, Maoist leaders strongly protested.

Maoist leaders said that Thapa misinterpreted the 'people's war'. He has also warned that "Time will calculate the book". They allege that Thapa, who emerged as a leader on the strength of the 'rape heat' of the Maoist war, tried to distort the history of the Maoist 'people's war'. 

Maoist leaders have commented that although he was once a hero of the 'people's war', he was presented as a 'villain' after joining the UML. Thapa was elected vice president in the tenth convention of the UML in Chitwan in 2079, and he has been working closely with the president KP Sharma Oli.

Publicly, he has few opinions. The latter is active in the party as a trusted leader of Oli. According to one of the leaders of UML, he rarely speaks in party meetings, if he has to speak, he supports Oli's views 100%.

UML President Oli has been saying that it is wrong to celebrate the "People's Day" because the Maoist war is "violence". After the previous Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal government decided to give a public holiday on the day of 'People's War Day', Oli strongly opposed it .

Thapa, who arrived at UML's event on Thursday, commented on the Maoist war in Oli's style. He also said that Oli had no objection to calling the war a violent conflict.

"People's war is violence". Violence means bloodshed, there  Die and kill. Therefore, I have no objection to the statement made by the chairman . "Maoists also accept this," Thapa said, adding that it is wrong to celebrate the People's War Day. It is not celebrated anywhere in the world. Maoists have also done a stunt to celebrate people's war.'

He said that Republic Day should be celebrated instead of any war day. We are going to celebrate the Republic Day. We are celebrating Republic Day on October 3,' he argued that the decision to celebrate People's War Day when Maoists were in his government was wrong. He wrote on the social network, 'I wish everyone the best wishes on the occasion of the 29th People's War Day . Remembering the great martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the country and people during the people's war, people's movement, etc., I express my heartfelt tribute to them... . '

When the CPN was formed, the document about the people's war and the struggles in Nepal mentioned that 'the ten-year people's war in Nepal played an important role in the democratic revolution'. All Marxist revolutionaries believe that the problem should be solved through war. Violence is class struggle . It is the highest form of struggle', he said, trying to theorize 'people's war'.

In 2065, Thapa became the defense minister after the government led by Maoist Chairman Dahal. On his recommendation, it was recommended to take action against the then Chief of Army Staff Rukmangat Katwal. The recommendation made by the government was reversed by the then President Ram Varan Yadav. After that, Katwal remained in command of the Prime Minister. Because of this, the Maoist government collapsed within nine months.

Thapa's main stand was in the government's decision to prosecute Katwal. At that time, the Maoists tried to increase their influence in the Nepali Army by making the then Rathi Kul Bahadur Khadka the Chief of Army Staff. In the words of the Maoists, he used the term "transformation of the Nepalese army".

In February 2077, Thapa stayed with the UML after the Supreme Court awoke the UML and Maoists saying that the CPN formation process was wrong. After that, he gradually became disillusioned with the Maoist "people's war". Thapa has started criticizing Baburam Bhattarai even though he separated from the Maoists while saying that 'people's war' was right.

Maoist Secretary Ram Karki said that Thapa did the same because he explained that the first basis for the formation of the real UML was wrong. "Badalji will do everything to become UML," he said, "People's war was wrong to be part of UML's core team." It had to be said that it was only violence.'

Even though Thapa (Badal) has some attraction in his heart towards the people's war, secretary Karki is of the opinion that he may be compelled to speak the words of the UML president. "While working under the leadership of that war, there must be a little attraction towards the people's war," he said, "Badalji was under compulsion or used his political art." Maoist central member Ram Prasad Sapkota said that he should be arrested because he was directly involved in the "people's war".

"If former Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal has called the people's war 'violence', then my request to the government and the prime minister is to arrest him immediately and put him in prison for life." Because the violence he said was done by himself directly, he said,  "We fought a people's war, it was a class struggle for justice and change."

He became a member of the secretariat after the UML and Maoist unification in May 2075. During the armed war, he was close to Maoist Chairman Dahal, and in the second half of it (2060), he was prosecuted in the 'sexual deviation' case. Dahal criticized the centralization of the leadership in the party, and he was prosecuted for sexual deviance during the underground period. After he criticized himself in the Chunwang meeting of 2060, his action was released .

In the famous Chunwang meeting, he cried and said that he was not Lin Piao as he tried to remove Mao from leadership in China. Then after the success of Jan Anlolan-2, he became Dahal's confidant. According to a Maoist leader, he often described Dahal as the greatest leader not only of Nepal but of the world. He used to strongly criticize the leader Baburam Bhattarai who started the internal conflict within the party.

During the general election of 2074, there was a rift between UML president Oli and Thapa. There was an intimate conversation between Oli and Thapa in the election program of West Nepal. Oli liked Thapa's nature of speaking less and speaking on the party's establishment line. Oli became the prime minister after the UML and Maoist alliance got a majority after the election. Oli's choice made him home minister. When he was the Home Minister, his security adviser Indrajit Rai, son Prateek was involved in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees.

In January 2077, when there was an extreme dispute within the CPN, Oli supported Thapa after extreme difficulties. Since then, he has been living as a 'right' leader in Oli's eyes. On Oli's recommendation, his wife Nainkala Thapa is a member of the National Assembly. In June 2077, when he became the Prime Minister, Oli appointed Nainkala as the Minister of Information Technology. Shortly after that, it was canceled by the order of the Supreme Court.

Oli was right when he dissolved the parliament in 2077. At that time, the Maoist party (Dahal) and the Madhav Nepal party protested saying that it was wrong.

During the armed war, he was famous by the nickname 'Badal'. Although the chief planner of the armed war was the then General Secretary Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leaders Mohan Vaidya, Baburam Bhattarai, 'Badal' was portrayed as a military strategist . As his father was in the Indian Army, he was said to be a military strategist of the Maoist war. But during the armed war, the Maoist 'Janesana' was more political than in charge of mobilization.
