Nepali Congress General Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that as long as the leadership of the Congress remains in Nepali politics, no law will be passed to curb the freedom of press and expression.
He said that the current government has submitted a bill related to social media in the parliament and the bill cannot be passed as it is. Speaking at the first meeting of the Arghakhanchi-Kathmandu Liaison Committee held in Kathmandu on Saturday, General Minister Thapa said that as long as the Congress is in existence, there is no need to worry much about the protection of citizens' right to freedom of expression.
'No law can be passed by the present parliament to curtail the freedom of expression . Congress is now the largest party in the country. We are clear about freedom of the press, about democracy, about freedom of speech, about the rule of law . These things are the basic values of Nepali Congress. "Congress cannot back down from these issues," he said, "as long as Congress is in power, whether it is in power or in opposition." In any case, the law cannot and will not be made to dismiss these subjects. Everyone should be sure of this.'
He said that it is not appropriate to raise doubts about the Congress convention. "According to the constitution of the Congress, the secretariat is working now". The central working committee is working . Departments are active . Now, wherever the Congress is, the country's problems are being discussed there . "Thinking and generating ideas is being done," he said, "We have renewed the active membership till March."
