A girl was arrested for demanding money by threatening to implicate her in a case of extortion

Police have arrested 28-year-old Asmita Acharya of Chitwan Ratnanagar Municipality-8 on the charge of demanding money while threatening to implicate her in a case of extortion.

She was living in an apartment in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13, Kuleshwar, and was arrested by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office team on Tuesday. According to Kazi Kumar Acharya, information officer of the office, Asmita blackmailed a young man she knew while repairing electronics and asked for money. Six months ago, while repairing a rice cooker, Asmita apparently became acquainted with a young man from a nearby store. The young man has also helped the girl with money. Acharya said, "When they got close, they used to talk many times." They have had lunch together as many as four times. But recently, Asmita started threatening that young man to give me money, otherwise I will file a case of extortion and tell the police and your family.  Due to the woman's threat, the young man has also agreed to pay 10 lakh rupees out of fear.'

During the initial investigation, police found that Asmita had given Rs 3 lakh immediately and the remaining Rs 7 lakh within a week. The police recovered a check of three lakhs from Nabil Bank and an iPhone from the woman. In this matter, the young man complained to the police saying that he was trapped even though he was innocent.  The police investigated based on the

complaint. Acharya said that now the girl has been sent to District Police Complex Bhadrakali Kathmandu for further investigation and action in the case of criminal benefit (extortion).
