On Wednesday, the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality seized the wood collected by illegally cutting down the Bar, Peepal and Sami trees of Pokhara. Manav Seva Foundation illegally cut trees and piled them on the land of Nepal Trust at Lakeside, and the city police seized them.
For Kotihome, which was supposed to be held at the lakeside from May 17 to May 26, the foundation had cut and collected trees only with the permission of the local village development organization. The foundation collected wood from different wards of Pokhara.
Bar, People, Sami and Chowtaro Conservation Act, 2075 has entrusted the responsibility of Chowtaro conservation and the process to be completed to the local level. The management of removing dangerous trees from public places is also in the Forest Act and regulations. Section 7 of the
Act has a provision to be made only on the basis of the recommendations of the Study and Recommendation Committee before cutting, grinding or removing bur, peepal, sami and chautaro. According to the law, the divisional forest officer or representative, the ward president or member of the respective ward, the chief member of the relevant project and the chief administrative officer of the local level will be the member secretary in the committee which is chaired by the head or chairman of the local level or the ward president appointed by him.
However, Manav Seva Foundation started cutting trees from January 5 with a verbal agreement with the local village development organization. Dhanraj Acharya, the head of Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, said that no one has received permission for Kotihome so far.
He said that the metropolis cannot give permission for cottage homes that last for one and a half to two months in the middle of a touristic city. The foundation said that it has obtained permission from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
