The search and recommendation committee formed to recommend names for the appointment of vice chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU) has called for applications again on Friday. It is mentioned in the notice issued by the committee that the application can be submitted by next Wednesday.

Previously, 17 people had applied when the application was requested on December 18. Among them, the application of 16 professors was approved by the committee and made public. After the professor of medical category complained that he was deprived of applying, the KU assembly instructed to revise the procedure on January 4. In the procedure, it is mentioned that professors who have a degree or equivalent can apply. The committee said that the procedure has been amended and re-application has been requested.

In the revised procedure, instead of Vidyavaridi, the educational qualification has been specified as Master's degree. The subject of MD, MS professors in medicine being left out of the competition while determining academic qualifications was raised in the meeting. Vice-Chancellor and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also drew attention to rethinking the procedure in the Assembly. 

The assembly formed a 3-member Vice Chancellor Search and Recommendation Committee under the coordination of KU founder Vice Chancellor Sureshraj Sharma. After the completion of the tenure of Vice-Chancellor Bhola Thapa on January 4, Registrar Achyut Wagle has been given the acting responsibility. In the first phase, the applications of 16 people including former registrar Subodh Sharma, including Thapa and Wagle, were accepted for the BHAB vice-chancellorship. Similarly, Meghnath Dangal, Shyam Narayan Lab, Naveen Pokharel, Balchandra Luintel, Hariprasad Neupane, Vibhutiranjan Jha, Kanhaiya Jha, Janardhan Lamichhane, Manish Pokharel, Vimprasad Shrestha, Veda Mani Dahal, Rajesh Nepal and Dhiraj Giri filed applications. It is mentioned in the procedure that the

committee evaluates the applicant out of 100 points. Separate points have been divided for the evaluation of educational qualifications, working experience of the professorship, experience of office bearers, publications including research books/articles, contributions in the field of education, thinking papers related to the university, work plan presentation. Maximum 20/20 marks are divided for presentation and interview. 15/15 marks are assigned for thinking paper and action plan. 

9 points for contribution in academic field, 5 points for experience as a professor, 4/4 points for academic research and publication, conducting research projects. 2/2 marks are kept for experience and educational qualification. There is a provision in the procedure that the applicants will be shortlisted and evaluated by a group of experts. According to the committee, the names of the 3 people who get the highest marks will be recommended to the Chancellor for appointment. Doctor in the committee.
