On which day will Bipin Joshi from Kanchanpur be freed from the hostages of the Palestinian rebel group Hamas? How could Hamas keep Bipin in the Gaza Strip, which was devastated by Israel's attack, for such a long time? What will be his current health condition? Qatar is the only strong diplomatic channel that can give a sure answer to Nepal.

Joshi has been held captive by Hamas for 482 days on Thursday (January 17). Nepal is hoping for dialogue and initiatives with Qatar, which is mediating between Israel and Hamas, for the release of Bipin from the first day, but the results of that have not been seen until Thursday.

Nepal has a strong labor diplomatic relationship with Qatar. The hard work, honesty and perseverance of 1.9 million Nepali workers have been combined during the three decades of Qatar's attractive development. The sweat of Nepalis cannot be forgotten in making every dream that Qatar wants and has seen come true. That's why,  Qatar itself has been expressing its appreciation of the immigrant community, including Nepalis, on national and international platforms. Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Althani reiterated this issue with the newly appointed Ambassador Rameshchandra Paudel, who came to Amiri Diwan on January 13th, 'It is a pleasure to welcome the Nepali immigrant community.' The person is – Bipin Joshi. For the release of which Nepal is looking for the role of Qatar the most. This matter has been repeatedly conveyed from the Qatari Embassy in Bhainsepati (Lalitpur) to Amiri Diwan. President Ramchandra Paudel and then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal requested Amir Althani, who arrived in Nepal last April, to facilitate the release of Bipin as soon as possible. Amir Althani was again reminded about the release of Bipin Joshi on behalf of Nepal in the meeting on January 13th.

'I express my sincere gratitude for the leading role played by the Amir and the Qatari government to mediate between Israel and Palestine,' Rameshchandra Paudel, the Nepalese ambassador to Qatar, told the Qatari Emir, 'I request that the Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who has been held hostage, be facilitated for his release as soon as possible.

How seriously has Qatar taken this repeated request of Nepal? Does not open clearly. If Qatar really wants it, it is not far-fetched that Bipin will be released immediately. Bipin does not have to wait for the second round for this. This issue is also confirmed by the release of Thai citizens. According to Israeli officials, five more Thai hostages are being released in addition to the three that will be released on Thursday.

31 Thai citizens were held hostage by Hamas. Among them, 23 Thais were released by Hamas in November 2023, when the first ceasefire was signed. Israel has confirmed that 5 of the remaining 8 will be released on Thursday.  Two Thai citizens are said to have died. These five Thais are not among the 33 who will be released in the first phase. Earlier, 23 people were different from the number agreed upon in the negotiations between Israel and Hamas. Diplomatic relations between Iran and Thailand were working behind this. At the request of Iran, Hamas gave up. The issue of releasing 5 people is also said at the request of Iran.
