The Ministry of Forests has declared red monkeys and wild boars as agricultural injurious wild animals for one year. With this announcement, there will be no legal action against farmers who kill red monkeys and wild boars after chasing them from their fields.

Earlier, the ministry had declared wild boar as a wild animal harmful to agriculture for one year on November 7, 2080. The ministry has declared both the animals as agricultural harmful wild animals for one year with effect from January 10. "Red monkeys and wild boars have been declared harmful to agriculture because they damage crops," said Ramchandra Kandel, director general of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Department.

5 conditions of monkey and wild boar management

In order to manage the monkeys and boars which are causing suffering to the farmers by destroying the crops, the demand to declare the wild animals harmful to agriculture was raised in the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives. After repeated requests from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, farmers' representative organizations, etc., saying that a food crisis may occur, the Ministry assigned a technical team for the study.

According to the report given by the technical team, the red monkey and wild boar have been declared as wild animals harmful to agriculture, said Deepak Kumar Kharal, Secretary of the Ministry of Forestry.

'Now, if these wild animals come to your farm, you can catch them and drive them away,' he said. According to the notification published in the Gazette, wild boars other than red monkeys and small breed boars that come to fields, barns, and fields are declared as agricultural harmful wild animals.

In rule 36 of the regulation, there is a provision that the Ministry of Forestry can declare wild animals or birds harmful to agriculture in a specific area for a specific time. It is stated in the said rule that wild animals or birds declared harmful to agriculture can be chased, chased, caught or killed without a permit in fields, barns, fields subject to specified conditions and restrictions. Kharal, secretary of the Ministry of Forests, said that if there is any problem within one year, the announcement can be re-evaluated.

According to the notice published in the gazette, the farmers have to follow five conditions to drive, chase and catch red monkeys and wild boars, which are declared as agricultural harmful wild animals. According to the first condition, if red monkeys and wild boars cause damage to crops or property, farmers can drive, chase or catch them individually or collectively. The second condition is that the captured monkey or wild boar must be submitted to the concerned National Park Office, Wildlife Reserve Office, Game Reserve Office, Conservation Area Office or the nearest office under that office. This information should also be given to the relevant local ward office.

The third condition is that at least five local people, including one representative of the ward, should be buried in Rohwar if they die while chasing, hunting or catching monkeys or wild boars, and this should be reported to the relevant offices.

According to the fourth condition, the data of dead monkeys and wild boars must be given by the relevant office to the Ministry of Forests and Environment, National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Department, relevant provincial ministries and provincial forest directorates every two months. But in the case of dead boars, the panchakirti price based on the weight can be determined and the amount deposited in the revenue can be used in the respective wards of the local level except for commercial purposes.

The fifth condition is that red monkeys and wild boars cannot be chased, chased or caught in national wildlife reserves, hunting reserves, conservation areas or national forest areas. There are 3 species and 6 subspecies of monkeys in Nepal. There are more than one lakh red monkeys in Nepal. According to monkey expert Mahesh Chalise, it is also known as Hazaria or Red Pate.

'These monkeys walk by making a big hole. Once they get into the crops, they will damage everything," he said, "They eat as much as they can eat, trample as much as they don't eat, and throw away as much as they taste. So it may be called a harmful organism.'

Chalise said that because monkeys cannot be captured in terms of international law, they can be used in drug testing. "If the government builds a medicinal laboratory and uses this monkey to collect revenue, millions of revenue can be collected," he said. It seems that the government is not going to control itself.'  He said that after the announcement of

wild animals harmful to agriculture, the farmers who can chase them away when they come to the fields will get relief. But it will be difficult to earn alternative income. It was seen that the people had to protect their property," he added, "After the crops were ripe, they had to stay tilled for that." Uddhav Adhikari, founder president of the National Farmers' Union Federation, says that the system of not being punished if something happens while chasing monkeys and wild boars is positive. "But there was no question of compensation," he said, "the government gave a legal form to what was already happening."
