Government may change but policy continuity is needed in development: Re

Varshman Pun, Deputy Secretary General of the main opposition party Maoist and former Finance Minister, has said that there should be policy continuity for development infrastructure and rapid economic development. He said that there should be no change in development and economic policy if the political leadership is changing.

In a program organized by the Department of Finance and Planning of the Maoists in Kathmandu, Pun expressed the opinion that the government can change in Nepal but the development policy should not be changed. "In a country with a mixed electoral system like ours, the government may change, but if there is policy continuity, the results will come," he said.

Due to policy continuity, Nepal was not only self-sufficient in energy and cement industry but also succeeded in showing presence in the regional market . "From the situation of load shedding for 18 hours, we have now reached the stage of exporting the excess electricity to the regional market (India-Bangladesh)," he said, "The Nepalese cement industry, which is only supplying 15 percent of the intermediate production, has now become self-sufficient and has succeeded in taking its share in the Indian market.&nbsp ;.'

Pun said that it would be wrong to blame only the government for the delay in the development project. He emphasized that the parliament, bureaucracy, construction industry, regulatory bodies, courts, media, government agencies related to development and common people should be development-friendly for development.
