Fire in about 100 hectares of forest area, there is no risk in the settlement
In the middle of winter, the fire in the Mahabharata Community Forest of Kavre has gone out of control. According to the district police office, the fire that broke out in the Mahabharata community forest at Thamalekh Danda of Khanikhola rural municipality-1 from 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon has not yet been brought under control.
According to Kavre police chief SP Bashundhara Khadka, after receiving the news about the fire in the community forest, the team deployed from police station Falametar, security agencies, employees of the forest division office, local public representatives and others are trying to put out the fire.
Due to the fire in the flooded forest area, the fire could not be extinguished immediately. She said that even though the army and police teams were operating in the forest area where the fire broke out, it was not possible to extinguish the fire immediately.
She informed that the fire is about 4 kilometers north of the village and there has been no human or animal damage so far. According to him, security personnel are monitoring the forest fire to prevent it from reaching human settlements, and if there is a danger, the locals have been instructed to move to a safe place immediately.
Bhagwan Adhikari, chairman of Bethanchok Rural Municipality, informed that the fire which started from Thamalekh Hill of Khanikhola Rural Municipality has now reached the border area of Bethanchok Rural Municipality 5, 3, 1 and 2. He said that it was difficult to control the fire because of the dense forest.
Bethanchok Rural Municipality has requested not to travel to Narayansthan located in Bethanchok Rural Municipality 3, a tourist spot in Kavre. As the fire has spread to the border area of Bethanchowk 1, 2, 3 and 5, considering the risk of fire, the rural municipality has issued a notice on Thursday asking not to travel to Narayansthan, a religious and tourist place.
According to Krishna Bahadur Thapa, Head of Division Forest Office, Kavre, the fire started in the southern part of the Mahabharat Community Forest located in Thamalekh Danda on January 8, and now it is seen that it has reached the northern part. He said that the staff at the scene informed that the fire in the forest was a little less because the northern part was a bit cold and dry.
According to him, there is a risk that the fire may spread further due to the windy conditions. He informed that it is estimated that the fire started on Tuesday in the area of 100 hectares in the community forest. He said that there is no definite information about how much damage was caused by the fire in the community forest.
In order to control the fire in Mahabharat Community Forest, the meeting of security chiefs held at Division Forest Office Kavre on Thursday discussed various measures to be taken to control the fire. In order to prevent the forest fire from reaching the settlements, the meeting has decided on 8 points including mobilizing local groups to form a 'fire line' to protect human settlements from forest fires, mobilizing security personnel and additional staff from the forest office to control the fire, and distributing propaganda materials through the media to control the fire.
