The MPs from the ruling party demanded the resignation of the Chairman of the Audit Committee

Along with opposition Maoists and RSVP, the ruling Congress MPs have also demanded the resignation of Public Accounts Committee Chairman Rishikesh Pokharel. They demanded that Pokharel should resign from the chairmanship on moral grounds as he is a member of parliament of the ruling party, his wife has been accused of co-operative fraud and his personal secretary has also been accused of fraud.

In Tuesday's meeting of the Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives, the ruling Congress MP suggested Pokharel to resign as chairman. They insisted that they should resign, arguing that the question had been raised in public and that the effectiveness of the parliamentary committee was being undermined.

Congress MP Arjunnar Singh KC was of the view that UML MP Pokharel, who is leading the government from the chairmanship, should resign as the chairman of the audit committee. "The Public Accounts Committee has been established to curb those who are in power, which can be tyrannical," he said He mentioned that it should be improved.

Maoist MP Janardhan Sharma said that the audit committee has become a shadow of the government because he is the chairman of the party that is leading the government. The question has arisen whether the committee will work as a shadow of the government or use the sovereign power of the parliament.

The committee meeting is starting after a long time. There is a lot of complaints in front of us,' said Sharma, 'we should look at what was the tradition and correct it if there was a wrong tradition.' He said that the audit committee should not be imprisoned because of the chairman.

Congress MP Devprakash Timilsina recalled that the opposition UML boycotted the meeting in the past when the ruling party took over the audit committee. He suggested that the rules of the House of Representatives should be amended to give the audit committee to the opposition party.

"Let's arrange that the Chairman of the Audit Committee changes with the change of government," he said. Congress MP Deepak Giri also said that serious questions have been raised about the effectiveness of the Audit Committee. "The question has been raised whether the audit committee was not effective because of the absence of the MPs or because of the chairman," he said. "Everyone should pay attention to how to increase its effectiveness." Maoist MP Amanlal Modi reminded that the Chairman of Pokharel Audit Committee was elected because UML was in the opposition at that time.

Maoist's Lekhnath Dahal said that the work of the committee is being affected due to the morally weak chairman. "The chairman has become morally weak, whether it is due to joining cooperatives or the recent illegal activities through his personal secretary," he said. There is enough space to suspect that these complaints are to be stopped, covered up, and given legitimacy to the misdeeds rather than to respond to the misdeeds committed by the government and to investigate the complaints.'

UML MP Tara Lama Tamang raised the issue of the Chairman's resignation in the coming days and threatened that it would not be good. He also proposed that the media should not be included in the meeting as they would write down what the MP said about the chairman's resignation, which was not on the agenda of the meeting.

has always done the same thing. Isn't it about the chairman? Did all committee chairpersons vote? When the chairman is made, three or four leaders sit and do this,'' said Tamang. If this is done from now on, it will not be so good.

Maoist MP Lekhnath Dahal objected to Tamang's statement. He asked, "What do you mean it won't be good from now on?" Are you going to play wrestling?' Tamang said in response, 'Even if you understand, it will not be good from now on.' After that, UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, who is also a member of the committee, defended the threatening language of MP Tamang and said, "Is it unparliamentary language saying it is not good?" He became an MP 20 years before you." He claimed that the effectiveness of the committee has increased during his tenure. The previous meeting of the Audit Committee was held on December 9. Since then, Pokharel's wife Anjala Koirala, who has been accused of co-operative fraud, appeared in court and was released on bail.

He was ordered to appear in court on the same day, make a statement, hold a hearing and be released on a bond of 1 million. Anil Pokharel, the then personal secretary of Pokharel, was also involved in fraud of 38 lakh 80 thousand rupees. Anil has been arrested after the High Court ordered an investigation.
