Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar has said that a temporary and long-term plan will be prepared immediately to stop the erosion of the Saptakoshi river. While monitoring the erosion area of Saptakoshi river in Belka municipality area of Udaipur today, he said that necessary steps will be taken to stop the erosion.
"The government will take steps with temporary and long-term plans to stop the cutting done by Saptakoshi," said the Minister of Home Affairs. He said that for the time being, initiatives will be taken to stop the erosion even if the disaster management department conducts a temporary plan. However, the minister noted that he will proceed by agreeing with friendly country India to permanently stop logging.
The Home Minister, the writer, today visited Sisouli of Belka municipality-8, Lahurekhonj of Saptakoshi bridge area and Kothu area of Ward No. 7. Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar said that a temporary embankment plan will be prepared and controlled immediately from the Saptakoshi bridge in Belka to three kilometers below and a permanent plan is being prepared to prevent erosion in the area from Saptakoshi bridge to Saptari, 11 kilometers below. Along with him, Congress leader and MP of Udaipur Constituency No-1 Narayan Khadka also monitored the Katan area.
Saptakashi floods have been eroding coastal areas every year. Hundreds of families have been displaced here due to erosion, the mayor of Belka Municipality Ashok Karki said. "We have drawn the attention of the government through the Minister of Home Affairs to move forward with the embankment plan, albeit temporarily, from this year in the three-kilometer area where there is an immediate high risk," he said. MP Khadka said that after observing the Saptakoshi river erosion today, the home minister has monitored the erosion area of the Triyuga river.
