Newly appointed Nepali Ambassador to the UK, Chandrakumar Ghimire, has said that he will continue efforts to get the British Prime Minister to visit Nepal. Talking to Kantipur for the first time the day after taking charge at the London Embassy, Ambassador Ghimire said that his initiative will continue.
In more than two hundred and eight years since Britain-Nepal diplomatic relations were established, not even one British Prime Minister has visited Nepal.
'We can't say in advance . But I am optimistic . There will be important visits from both sides in the coming days. It will further enrich the relationship between the two countries,' he said.
He said that Britain is a very important country for Nepal and the relationship with Britain is very important and historic for Nepal. He also expressed his commitment to fulfill his responsibilities by taking benefits.
'Nepal government has expectations, Nepal's economy has expectations . Nepali society has some expectations. I have prepared a very long action plan to fulfill all these,' the ambassador further said, 'I have also submitted that action plan to the honorable parliament in Kathmandu during the parliamentary hearing. I have discussed with various stakeholders how it can be implemented . Political diplomacy is included in it . Where and how we can benefit from it. Some are about economy diplomacy . It also includes how Nepal's economy can benefit more and faster from the UK. There are also issues of our cultural and social diplomacy.'
Mentioning that the presence of Nepalis in UK and Irish Diaspora has become strong, he also emphasized that 'soft power' should be used based on their presence for the benefit of Nepal and Nepalis. There are also academic and research subjects. There is a matter of cooperating with the institutions and organizations working in that field in Nepal. I have included it in my action plan . At the same time, there is an action plan to solve the problems of the Gorkha community. With the roadmap of these things, we have moved ahead with determination to implement them,' said Ambassador Ghimire.
Ambassador Ghimire said that Nepal is now a politically stable country and said that in the future, we should achieve rapid economic progress and economic growth. "We have to deliver its benefits to the grassroots." We have to do a lot of work on investment. We have to take advantage in the field of international trade. As Nepal is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world, we have to take maximum advantage from it. "We are ready for everything because we have to benefit from many areas," he said.
Mentioning that the solution of any of the biggest problems in the world is through dialogue, he expressed his determination to continue his initiative to solve the former Gurkha issue only through dialogue. He also emphasized on doing homework and waiting for the right time to work for that. 'Diplomacy is a game of engagement . The more engaged we are, the closer we can get to a solution . From this engagement we can reach a logical conclusion . We have to find a solution to it while keeping the sensitivity of the historical relationship between the two countries intact, further enriching it," Ambassador Ghimire added on the former Gorkha issue, "past His Excellencies have also tried to do so. I am confident that the progress of the talks will be carried forward to reach a logical conclusion one day. Any problem can be solved through negotiation. We should move forward by giving the most importance to the dialogue.' He said that he will continue to connect with the Nepali community in the UK in the future.
