President of Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal and former Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav has said that the history of Madhesh is thousands of years older than the history of Nepal.
He said this while addressing a meeting organized on the occasion of Sacrifice Day at Siraha headquarters on Saturday. According to Yadav, the Madhesh movement has destroyed the comment that Nepal is only a country of Nepali speakers. "Nepal is only a country of Nepali speakers," he said, "not only in the country, but also abroad," while the history of Madhesh is thousands of years older than the history of Nepal.
He claims that while the culture and civilization of Madhesh were in the ascendant, there was no mention of the word Nepal or Nepali. According to Yadav, Gorkha imperialists named the country after occupying Madhesh so that it would be a single country.
Yadav said that even though the Madhesh movement has repeatedly attacked their atrocities, there is a need for a stronger struggle. "There are many nationalities in this country, there are hundreds of races and communities," he said.
He alleged that the country got federalism on the strength of the Madhesh movement and that the Congress communists were trying to make it fail. He has also alleged that the Congress Communists have eaten up all the money borrowed from abroad in the name of development in Nepal through corruption.
