After celebrating Maghi, everyone in the village gathered at one place and reviewed the year's work. It was discussed who will do what to solve the problems of the community and bring everyone together. The discussion entered the topic of 'Khojani Bozhani' (choosing a house). Everyone unanimously congratulated 56-year-old Dhirendra Dagaunra.

In Bedkot Municipality-9 Lalpur's Tharu Basti, the locals elected Dagoura for the 42nd time as Badghar on Wednesday. "Now it is said that someone new should be ready, but everyone made me a badghar again," said Dhirendra.

Dhirendra was 14 years old when he was first married, just living on the edge of his beard. Now 56 years old, his beard has grown. A lot has changed. But his role in uniting the village society is continuous. That is why he has been chosen again.

This responsibility fell on Dhirendra's shoulders after his father Chhotelal was a widower for 10 years. Since then, he has been continuously elected as Badghar. When Badghar was first formed, along with Lalpur, Vasantpur, Sunderpur and Mandirpur were one village. About two hundred and fifty families lived in one village. But now all the villages are separated. There are only 40 families in Lalpur. Those 40 families have chosen him as their home.

Badghar is chosen every year during Maghi. Even if the old one is to be continued, it is decided at the time of demand. For this, a decision is taken after discussion in the village meeting. Badghar is also the head of the village. Badghar is involved in every activity in the village. Villagers follow Badghar's decision in all rites from birth to death. This is called 'Marni Karni' in their community.

The role of the elder is considered to be important for village weddings, fasting, digging roads, digging ditches, settling disputes or solving other problems. From fetching firewood from the forest to chopping, bringing leaves and making Dunatpari, making food and distributing invitations, the Badghar does the distribution of work responsibilities. Dagaunra says that although there is not as much work as in the past, the role of Badghar is not less.

"At that time, the village used to be united, but now it is not like that," said Dhirendra, "now there is a competitive life, everyone is busy with their own work." Badghar is also responsible for maintaining unity and harmony in the village. "Responsibility has increased, respect has also increased," said Dhirendra, who is also the central vice president of the Bhalmansa Matawa Federation, "but now there is less time for social work, so it is difficult to unite everyone like before."

Badghar 62-year-old Gopichandra Dagaunra of Lalpur, who was involved in the selection process, said that those who can unite the village will be selected as Badghar. "First it was the father, then the son has taken responsibility, good work is being done, Dhirendra is a person who can respect and unite everyone," he said. He said that the person who listens to everyone and can give justice to everyone should be the chief.
