Senior Superintendent of Police Vinod Ghimire, head of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, has said that the purpose of the traffic police is not to punish vehicle drivers.
In the introductory program organized by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office on Thursday, Chief Ghimire was of the opinion that the traffic police should only take action to make drivers responsible. He said that in recent times, the actions taken against the vehicles are different according to the schedule.
Chief Ghimire said that the traffic police used to do a good job in the past when they took action against many vehicles, but now there is a shortage. He also said that action by the traffic police is not a priority.
'Recently, according to the schedule, the action taken against vehicles has been different. The traffic police used to do a good job in the past when they prosecuted many vehicles. At present, the traffic police has not prioritized action. We are working on traffic awareness and road safety education as a priority. The traffic police has emphasized technology. We sit at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and take action against vehicles. We are also preparing to make the classes online for the drivers involved in road lane action," he said. "Our aim is not to take action. We are taking action to make drivers responsible. Drivers and operators also need to take responsibility.'
