With the discussion of constitutional amendment, Madhesh-centric parties are standing together

With the discussions of the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML)-led government to amend the constitution, the Madhes-centric parties are engaged in the practice of front banding. With the two ruling parties starting to talk about amending the constitution, the Madhes-centric parties are seen to be leading for dialogue and possible cooperation.

Democratic Socialist Party (LOSP)  General Secretary Dr. Surendra Jha said that dialogue has started to return the United Democratic Madhesi Front to its original state. Currently, 10 Madhes-centric political parties are active inside and outside the parliament.

The Madhesh-centric parties are engaged in the practice of front banding for the achievements gained from the movements in different periods and for the protection of the rights of the marginalized sections. Jha mentioned that constitutional amendment is also the agenda of the Madhesi parties and said that a committee has been formed to make a common opinion. He said that the Democratic Socialist Party participated in the government because constitutional amendment was the main responsibility of the government.

He said, "Some leaders of the Congress have argued that a two-party system should be introduced through constitutional amendment." That is not acceptable to us.' He mentioned that the constitution embraces pluralism and said that the amendment towards regression will be fatal for the country.

Stating that a dialogue has started between the Madhes-centric parties inside and outside the parliament, he said that now a dialogue committee has been formed between all the parties. During the three Madhes protests, he Remembering the past 8-point agreement with the government in 2064, they said that they joined the government because they were together in the electoral alliance. Stating that the parties with the legacy of the movement are also in the parliament, he said, "Our constitution embraces pluralism." The multi-party system is a system that we brought with bloodshed . That is why constitutional amendment is necessary . But revisions towards regression are fatal for the country.'

Since the society is diverse, if this is done, the constitution itself will be attacked and the current situation has brought them together, he said. He said that there are 28 MPs who lead Madhes in the parliament.

Before the meeting of Madhesi Ekta Samaj, independent MP Amresh Kumar Singh accused the current government of curtailing the rights of the marginalized community. He mentioned that the representation of the marginalized communities in the state bodies is decreasing and said that there is a threat to the current system and federalism from the current government. He said, "whether the marginalized community is Madhesi, Dalit or women - their rights are being curtailed day by day". Their representation in the state agencies is getting weaker . If there is a threat to federalism and republic today, it is from this alliance.  As the government is growing for factional interests, it is necessary for us to unite against it.' However, the government has not started the necessary homework for the amendment of the constitution.
