According to local time on Tuesday morning, the earthquake occurred in the center of Dingri County of China's Xijang Autonomous Region, near the northeastern border of Nepal.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, China's official agency for measuring earthquakes, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurred at 9:50 a.m. local time. According to the center, the origin point (depth) of the earthquake is 10 km.
According to Chinese media, 53 people have died and more than 60 have been injured.
President Xi Jinping, who is also the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, has instructed the injured to be rescued immediately and taken to the hospital. Xi also instructed to show readiness to rehabilitate those displaced after the earthquake.
