Central Member of Nepali Congress and Head of Education Department Nainsingh Mahar has said that there is a need for a sports university in Nepal.
While inaugurating the WRC Cricket League held at Western Engineering Campus in Pokhara on Monday, leader Mahar said that the state needs to invest in preparing skilled players, coaches and management teams.
'The government should establish a sports university as soon as possible to produce skilled manpower such as players, sports trainers and coaches. The government has formed a study task force. That alone is not enough,' he said. He said that the success of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket tournament has pushed Nepal into the golden age of cricket.
'It is a big thing that a league like NPL is completed successfully in Nepal despite the lack of sufficient infrastructure and budget,' he said, 'Such leagues should be held not only at the central level but also at the provincial level.' He said that the state should increase investment for the sports sector and that the sports sector will help Nepal to be recognized at the international level.
