Indian child rights activists have also supported the campaign in Nepal to end child marriage. Child rights activists, children and activists from Nepal and India participated in the candle lighting and march pass program organized during the launch of the 'Child Marriage Free Nepal' campaign.
With the support of 'Just Right for Children' (GRC) and 'Backward Society Education' (BASE), the Government of Nepal has launched the Child Marriage Free Nepal Campaign.
According to the goal of sustainable development, GRC and BASE have made an action plan to announce the end of child marriage in Nepal by the year 2030. In Nepal, there are preparations to conduct a public awareness campaign about children's rights, protection and legal system from the local level.
In this campaign, GRC and BASE are preparing to collect as many commitments as possible in all seven provinces in cooperation with the government mechanism. During the launch of the campaign, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed his commitment against child marriage by supporting the child marriage free campaign.
Bhuvan Ribhu, founder of GRC, said that massive public support and commitment is needed for the protection and promotion of children.
'Nepal will be able to achieve the goal of a child marriage-free nation through the responsibility of the entire civil society and social organizations,' he said, 'through that, the health, education and safety of every child will be ensured.' The age limit is 20 years. But among the countries where there are many child marriages, Nepal ranks third in South Asia after Bangladesh and India.
