After suffering a heart attack, 71-year-old Vasti was taken to Narvik Hospital in Thapathali on Friday night for treatment. But he passed away last night, Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kunikel said citing family sources.

Wasti, who worked for a long time as a government lawyer and worked in the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court on August 22, 2065. Later, he retired from the Supreme Court as a temporary judge on 29 Chaitra 29, 2070.

He gained publicity by prosecuting many corruption cases while in authority and played an active role in the committee formed to establish a corruption-free judiciary in 2064. On his insistence, the committee gave a report that mediators are dominant inside and outside the court .

After retiring from the Supreme Court, he worked as a member of the National Human Rights Commission for 6 years. Lately, he was also active in studying, researching and writing books in the field of justice and law.

According to Kuikel, spokesperson of the Supreme Court, since Vasti's son is in the US, after his arrival, the last rites have been scheduled at Pashupati Aryaghat on Sunday.
