Cope-29 review: Nepal achieved achievements in 8 subjects

The Ministry of Forestry and Environment has said that Nepal has achieved eight issues in the conference on climate change.

The Ministry organized a program on the '29th World Climate Conference and Review of Nepal's Participation in the International Court of Justice' program in the capital on Thursday. The 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, from October 26 to November 7. (Cop-29) was 2024 . In the same conference, Nepali   Secretary of the Ministry Deepak Kumar Kharal gave the information about the achievements in matters including capacity building of the representatives. According to him, in the conference, Nepal played a major role in bringing the attention of the international community to the attention of the mountain dialogue, coordinating and raising the voice of the common agenda of the Himalayas.

Likewise, high-level participation in high-level political involvement in international dialogue, agreement with the Swedish government for carbon trading, elected as a board member of the Adaptation Fund, recognition of the Adaptation Board and the launch of two projects in the presence of GEF (Global Environment Facility), Secretary, are the main achievements of Nepal's COP-29. Kharal said.

He gave information about the achievements of Nepal in COP-29 through a presentation. In the conference, Nepal raised issues such as climate justice, climate finance, climate adaptation, damage and loss, and he said that Nepal raised the voice that should be addressed. ;

'In COP-29, Nepal got the opportunity to participate in 17 bilateral meetings,' he said, 'Thus, we participated in 324 meetings out of 392.' Secretary Kharal said that it is necessary to raise the level continuously.

Likewise, Nepal's future path after COP-29 is that it is necessary to increase carbon trade through bilateral agreements to increase access to multilateral carbon funds, and it is necessary to find a way to create an efficient and effective mechanism for the climate finance project, he said.

On the same occasion, Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri informed that the 'National Nature Conservation Fund' has been successfully listed as an implementing organization of the Adaptation Fund under the United Nations for the process of gathering necessary support for climate adaptation.

"Nepal has succeeded in leading the discussion that mountain areas should be included in climate change at this conference," he said. After nine years of discussions about regulating carbon trade, the way for Nepal to participate in carbon trade has opened. Minister Shahi said that the role of dependent countries especially in petroleum production and sales is not supportive. Due to this, a country like Nepal is suffering the effects of climate change, he said.

But Minister Shahi told that Nepal is presenting itself strongly in COP-29. "Even though Nepal has not contributed much to climate change, it has been recognized as a country that is taking a leading role in solving the problem of climate change on the world stage," he said, "We are not only putting our problems on international platforms, but we have succeeded in encouraging climate-friendly plans and international cooperation. Stay .'
