Kamaladevi Bista of Vedkot-9 Sundarpur, Kanchanpur, was told by her son Lokendra Bahadur, who was recruited into the Russian army, in a messenger last June, 'Don't worry, mother, I have paid the loan, now I will go back and build a house.' Finally the news came from Russia, which shocked her.

The news is that 10 more Nepalis including Lokendra died in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Lokendra, who went to Russia along with his neighbor Virajan Bista and his brother Nirajan, paid 7 lakh rupees to the broker, and was unaware since June 28. Virajan, who went with Lokendra, has also been confirmed dead, while Nirajan is injured. Lokendra was killed in Zaporizhia region of Ukraine under Russian control. After working in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Lokendra joined the Russian army in the hope of getting a lucrative salary.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Monday that 10 more Nepalis who joined the Russian army and served in the war with Ukraine died. According to the information sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Nepali Embassy in Moscow till December 8, the number of Nepalis who have died in the Russia-Ukraine war has reached 49 so far.

Jeevan Rai of Morang, Virajan and Lokendra Bahadur of Kanchanpur, Ganesh Singh Pun of Rolpa, Ganesh Shrestha of Syangja, Om Bahadur Magar of Udaipur, Jeevan Limbu, Mohan Tamang and Dhruv Ghartimar and Ranjit Gurung of Chitwan have also been confirmed dead.

The government has informed the families of all those who died. Most of the families have already taken action before the official information was given by the government. Virajan of Kanchanpur was killed in a drone attack inside a bunker on Baisakh 5. But the government of Russia and Nepal did not confirm it. Based on the information of friends, the family performed the last rites of Virajan. "Three days after the last conversation with him, the news came that he died in the war, we also got a video of him being killed in an explosion in the bunker," said his wife Chandni, "we completed the procedure based on that."

But Chandni said that she is preparing to go to Moscow, the capital of Russia, to perform the last rites of her husband Virajan on Wednesday (10 p.m.). "We didn't get a ticket to fly from Nepal to Moscow. We are going to Moscow from Delhi via Dubai on Wednesday," she said, "My brother and I are here." We will perform the last rites in Moscow and proceed with the necessary process for compensation. We will stay in Moscow until we get compensation.' She said that she also plans to meet her brother-in-law Nirajan, who was seriously injured in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Ranjit Gurung of Chitwan was last contacted till June 25. I am going to another place from today, this place has been bid farewell. May God protect my clan. Have a good stay at the end,' he said while uploading his video on Tiktok before going to the other front of the war, 'I will upload another video as soon as possible.' After that he did not get in touch.

Gurung, who went to Dubai for foreign employment, was recruited into the Russian army from there and died in the war in the seventh month. The government of Nepal does not have the official data of Nepalis who are serving in the Russian army in the ongoing war in the 1700 km border area between Russia and Ukraine. According to the Nepalese who served in the war and returned, the human losses increased when Russia sent them to the "Red Zone" without providing full training on war.

The families of 118 people have submitted an application to the consular department saying that they have disappeared on the battlefield. Among them, the family members of 57 people sent DNA samples to help identify the bodies at the request of the Russian government. But there is no information that has been confirmed yet.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a diplomatic note to the Russian government on 18th December 2080 saying 'not to recruit Nepali citizens into the Russian army and if it is done, to immediately return them to Nepal'. It is estimated that around 1,500 Nepalis have joined the Russian army. The Nepali Embassy has the data that 162 people have come to Nepal after canceling the contract in one year.

After the initiative of the Nepalese government, Russia has stopped admitting Nepalis from last May, according to the foreign ministry. Since then, the Russian government has taken a lax policy for not wanting to renew the contract. "Many Nepalis whose contracts have expired have returned," Acting Ambassador to Russia Sushil Ghimire said. We are coordinating with the Russian Foreign Ministry to bring them to Moscow.'
