Prime Minister's instructions to come up with a solution to the problems of the university

Prime Minister and Vice-Chancellor KP Sharma Oli has identified the problems of Tribhuvan University and directed the officials and members of the assembly to come up with a proposal with solutions. On Sunday, the Chancellor called the members of the assembly to an informal meeting at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.

Various problems and reforms of the university were discussed in the meeting. Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Education Vidya Bhattarai, Vice-Chancellor Kesharjung Baral, Rector Khadag KC, Registrar Kedar Rizal along with Deans, professors, students, staff representatives participated in the discussion.

The Prime Minister's Secretariat said that in the discussion that lasted for about three hours, the representatives of the fields including professors, employees, students, public campuses and others suggested solutions to the problems in the field. After the discussion, Prime Minister Oli directed the officials of the university to discuss the problems and demands of all sectors and bring the issues to be decided along with solutions in the form of proposals.

Chancellor Oli called an informal discussion asking for a detailed discussion after realizing that the distance between the office bearers and the senate members had increased in the agenda presented at the Senate meeting of the University in Kirtipur on November 27th. After listening to the participants, Prime Minister Oli requested to bring a proposal in the formal meeting after sufficient homework and a kind of consensus.

He made it clear that there is nothing for him to take personally from the university (loss of profit) and urged to protect its dignity, dignity and reputation as the development, protection, promotion and progress of the university is a common concern . He suggested that the functioning of the university should be transparent, academic calendar should be implemented, and meritocracy should be maintained.

'My point is that there should be a true meritocracy . I don't know how much meritocracy the dean has. Who is appointed, that is not a matter of my interest, the matter of my interest is that this university is strong, capable manpower is produced . I have no interference in appointments. It is the officials who decide, so you have to take responsibility for success and failure. My only interest is to do well as the chancellor . If this is also considered an intervention, what can be considered other than surprise?' he said.

Prime Minister Oli said that a task force should be formed to study and implement the report of the movable and immovable property search committee of the University and further study should be done as the report is not sufficient. Prime Minister Oli said that if the Tertiary Service Commission does not conduct regular examinations, it should reconsider its rationale.
