Revenue leakage case against 34 people including customs officials

A case has been filed against 34 people, including four employees of Janakpur Chhoti Customs, in the Temporary Ijalas Birgunj of Janakpur High Court on the charge of revenue leakage. According to Krishna Kumari Shrestha, Spokesperson and Deputy Director General of the Revenue Investigation Department, they have been asked to pay 107.2 million fines and jail terms.

The department filed a case against two Indian citizens, employees and traders through the Pathalaiya Revenue Office.

Revenue Investigation Office Pathalaiya found that there was revenue leakage during the physical examination of the goods of the truck that had escaped from Lagma Jatahi Chhoti Customs under Janakpur Customs. The truck was seized and handed over to the revenue office by the Pathalaiya police last October.

Revenue filed the case on Wednesday after about three months of investigation, the department informed. In two trucks with Indian numbers that passed the inspection from the said customs, clothes including kurta-salwars imported without paying customs duty were found.

Among the Indians charged are truck drivers Madhuwani Jorla, 36-year-old Ahmed Alam and Sultanpur Barrala, 40-year-old Sher Bahadur Singh. They are in jail because they could not pay the bail of 15-15 lakhs demanded by the court.

Similarly, a case has been filed against Mahendra Gurung of Bensisahar Municipality-10 Lamjung, Rudra Prasad Shrestha of Ruru Kshetra Rural Municipality-5 Gulmi and 25 Nepalese who have retired as Indian soldiers, the department has informed through a statement.

After retiring from the Indian army, the Pathlaiya office has alleged that he brought Kurta Salwar by misusing the facility to bring new personal and fixed value items.

Rudraprasad of Gulmi, who came along in the truck with the goods, said he would be back in a while, and lost contact. It is assumed that the item belongs to him. Revenue sources have informed that he is under suspicion as he absconded when the goods were not his.

The goods were seized by the Pathalaiya police and handed over to the revenue office. Most of the recovered items were Kurta Salwars that did not pay customs duty, said the staff of Pathalaiya who were assigned to the investigation.
