The writ petition against the land donated by Meen Bahadur Gurung, the owner of Bhatbhateni Super Store, and the building to be built on it, has been rejected by the Supreme Court.
The joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Abdul Aziz Muslim and Balkrishna Dhakal dismissed the petition against the donation of land and buildings of Gurung to UML on Monday.
With this order of two judges, Muslim and Dhakal, the way for UML central office to be built on the land donated by Gurung has been opened. Petitioner advocates Gyan Bahadur Basnet, Shyamakrishna Maske and Arjun Thapa filed a writ against UML and Bhatbhateni's owner Gurung saying that it is illegal for the government-led party to donate land from businessmen. In the
writ petition, it was also mentioned that Gurung, the donor, is accused in the eyes of the government led by the donor-recipient UML, two cases against Gurung are pending in the court and he has been found guilty by the court . It was also mentioned in the petition that the person who donated the land of Lalita Niwas was convicted and sentenced to 2 years in prison and a fine of Rs 80 lakhs to confiscate the land.
Businessman Meen Bahadur Gurung and his wife Savitri Gurung have given 10 ropani and 14 annas of land to the UML for building a central office in Kirtipur Municipality-2 Maitrinagar.
On October 25, Prime Minister and UML President KP Sharma Oli and the couple of Bhatbhateni owner Meen Bahadur Gurung jointly laid the foundation stone of the building. Gurung promised to construct the building within 1 year and hand it over to UML.
