UML has concluded that the results of the local level by-elections are not satisfactory. UML is also preparing to reconsider its working style based on the election results.

The UML announced 'Mission 084' to get a single majority in the 2084 elections, but the by-elections did not get the expected results. In the by-elections for 44 posts, including two Jesus chiefs, UML managed to win only eight seats. Congress won 19 seats and Maoists won 11 seats in the by-elections. Although UML gained one seat for the municipal chairman and two seats for the vice chairman, it lost three ward presidents. UML reached the third position in the Kirtipur municipality of the capital Kathmandu. UML was behind by about 700 votes in the ward president of Kathmandu-16 who claimed to win the election.

The UML's analysis is that the party's results have been weak because the union and the local government failed to instill hope, the municipalities won by the UML performed poorly, and local leaders and activists failed to strengthen public relations. UML has reviewed the by-election in the secretariat meeting on Tuesday.  In the

meeting, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, presenting the report on the by-elections, said that although the result was not as weak as it was rumoured, it should be reviewed as it was not as expected. In the meeting, there was a discussion about the need to decide a program to connect the voters of urban areas including Kathmandu. In the by-elections, although UML added the municipality president and vice president, the overall result is not encouraging. We have taken it seriously, said UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali.

Political science professor Krishna Pokharel said that the KP Sharma Oli government failed to deliver results, the workers were leader-oriented, and the urban voters did not trust the UML. The UML leaders tried to comment on the two-party system. Voters did not see Maoists as a force to be ignored," he said. "In UML, which has a tight organization, there is now a tendency to hang around leaders rather than working in the field. They could not reach the voters.'

'Couldn't be satisfied with the results of the by-elections'

 Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Vice President, UML

What is UML's review about the local level by-elections?

In the Secretariat meeting, the Secretary General presented a general review of the local elections. It has been decided to discuss it more seriously. The result of the party in the by-election could not be satisfied. The party has lost where it should have won. It is concluded that Mission 084 will be difficult to succeed without resolving the cause of defeat.

What caused the poor results?

There are questions whether we have not been able to go among the people, whether we have not been able to explain our purpose and working style to the voters, whether we have not been able to pay proper attention to the selection of candidates in the by-election.

Didn't the urban voters prefer UML in the by-elections?

Kirtipur Municipality and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 16 We said we would win but we lost. I think it should be thought carefully. It is said that our words and behavior do not match. The party should proceed in a planned manner by correcting the shortcomings seen in the by-elections.
