Stakeholders have expressed their interest in the names listed for the appointment of officials in the Investigation Commission of Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. They have expressed their doubts saying that the political parties are going to appoint both commissions looking for people who can help and protect them.

Representing the victims of the conflict, 9 people wrote a letter to the chairman and members of the recommendation committee on Wednesday, asking them not to repeat the mistakes of the past in the appointment process. "The short list of candidates and the presentation schedule published in Gorkhapatra last Saturday did not indicate that the discussion would be made transparent, and that victims' representatives, civil society and the media would have access," they wrote in the letter, "inside a closed room. The presentation and discussion will not increase the credibility of the process, on the contrary, it will push the entire selection process towards a crisis of legitimacy.'

The recommendation committee headed by former Chief Justice Omprakash Mishra published a short list of 40 candidates for the chairmanship and members of both commissions last Saturday. According to the list, Achyut Prasad Bhandari and Vijaysingh Sijapati are the presidents/members of both the commissions, Dilliraj Acharya, Mahesh Thapa and Vishwaraj Koirala are the presidents of both the commissions and Kashiraj Dahal, Sudeep Pathak and the Truth Verification Commission are the presidents. Sher Bahadur KC is the candidate.  Some of the names on the

list are disputed by conflict victims. "Someone on the list has a controversial background and some have nothing to do with the transitional justice process," said Suman Adhikari, the founding president of the conflict-affected Common Chowtri. People who are involved in the process are needed, otherwise the process of justice and truth cannot proceed as before.'' The victim wants to say.  The recommendation committee is interviewing the shortlisted candidates from Thursday morning. Committee chairman Mishra, members former ambassador Arjun Karki, former attorney general Khamba Bahadur Khati, founding president of Tribal Women's Federation Stella Tamang and member of Human Rights Commission Manoj Dawadi will sit in the interview. The committee allotted 20 minutes of interview time to each member. It is not possible to live the interview now. If it goes live, the candidates may not come," said President Mishra, "We work in a transparent manner." Mishra said that the name will be recommended after the interview by the end of November.
