US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, who is on a visit to South Asia, met with Congress Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Lou Biden has come to Nepal for a three-day visit via Sri Lanka at the end of his administration.

Assistant Minister Lu reached Budhanilkanth on Sunday to meet with Speaker Deuba. Bhanu Deuba, Deuba's personal secretary, informed that the multifaceted relations between the two countries were discussed during the meeting.

Lu talked about strengthening the relationship between the two countries. There was a conversation between them about the overall aspect of Nepal-America. They also discussed issues including the international environment,'' said Private Secretary Deuba. 

After meeting Deuba, Lu went to Khumaltar to meet Maoist Chairman Dahal. According to the Secretariat of President Dahal, Dahal expressed his belief that such visits and meetings will further strengthen mutual relations. Mentioning that Nepal is trying to move forward on the path of economic prosperity, President Dahal said that the cooperation and harmony of the international community, including the United States, will be important in this, according to the secretariat.

'We have adopted a policy of emphasizing energy and tourism development based on agriculture,' he said. For this, the support and investment from the international community is important. Dahal informed that Nepal's peace process has started to be fundamentally completed with national consensus. 

Dahal said that the incident of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi still missing is a matter of concern for Nepal. He emphasized that it was good to hear from the Israeli side that Joshi was alive recently and that the attention of the international community should be taken for Joshi's release as soon as possible.

US Assistant Minister Lu said that Nepal's progress will be a matter of happiness for them and they will increase all kinds of cooperation and goodwill, according to the Secretariat. Lu expressed happiness that Nepal's peace process has been concluded for national consensus and said it is good news for the international community. He mentioned that America is continuously supporting Nepal's economic development. 

He has no plans to meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Oli is currently visiting Eastern Nepal. Assistant Foreign Minister Lu will interact with Nepali leaders as well as civil society. According to the embassy, ​​his visit will play a role in strengthening the cooperation between Nepal and the US in the fields of environmental protection, women's empowerment, culture promotion and sustainable development.
