Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) can be either a loan or a grant. Prime Minister Oli said this about BRI in an event held at Birtamod in Jhapa.
'BRI can be a loan, grant or joint investment,' Oli said while addressing the leading workers of UML in Jhapa's Birtamod on Monday, 'What is BRI? Many shouted without understanding.' Oli said that BRI China's support to other countries in development could be loans, grants, cooperation, or joint investment.
Oli Arguing that loans can be BRI, grant BRI and it has many dimensions, he added, 'China's assistance to foreign countries also falls under BRI. We have emphasized things related to economic development.' Stating that he went on a visit to China to talk about grant aid, Oli added, 'It should not be said that a poor country like ours should not take a loan from any country. He will not do anything to harm the country.'
Oli's claim was that the Chinese assistance that Nepal receives has been confused for years and the government has taken it forward by making an agreement this time. 'We have reached a framework agreement about BRI. The agreement we made in BRI is correct. This is a subject accepted by 153 countries. We have made an agreement to benefit our country. No one should be confused. We will not leave our national interests.'
