UML is going to review the working of the coalition government, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit to China and the results of local level by-elections. A central secretariat meeting has been called for the review on Tuesday.
An official of UML said that they are preparing to discuss the issue of speeding up the work of the government in the secretariat meeting. According to him, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli himself is not satisfied with the functioning of the government. Although there was a performance agreement between the Prime Minister and the departmental minister on August 27 regarding public services and infrastructure construction to be done in the first hundred days (November 6), second hundred days (January 17) and by the end of the financial year, the work has not been done accordingly.
Prime Minister Oli, speaking on the occasion of reaching 100 days of leading the government, claimed that 70 percent of the target has been achieved. But mainly there is no improvement in government services and there is no satisfactory progress in development expenditure. Although the Oli government is strong in terms of arithmetic, the common minimum program of the government, which was put forward as a common resolution of the coalition, has not been implemented effectively. Rajendra Gautam, head of UML's propaganda department, claims that the government is moving in the direction of achieving the target.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Oli has made a four-day official visit to China. During the visit, an agreement was signed between the two countries on the 'Belt and Road Cooperation Framework'. UML has prepared to pass a resolution of thanks for signing the BRI agreement during the Prime Minister's visit to China from the secretariat meeting.
Prime Minister Oli has been mentioning the BRI agreement as an achievement of his visit. However, some leaders of the ruling Congress are expressing their displeasure over the use of the wording 'ad financing modality' in order to take a loan in the agreement.
Prime Minister Oli expressed his displeasure with not landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport on his way back from China after the commentary on the loan issue started. "The debt issue has not been resolved. Where does the debt come from? Why is this rut playing always loan-loan-loan?'' he said.
Former Foreign Minister and Deputy Secretary General Pradeep Gyawali said that after the agreement reached between the Congress and the UML at the top level, there was no point in arguing about the BRI cooperation framework.
