Sunsari's media persons have drawn the attention of Home Minister Ramesh Ukhtar against the threatening expression of Hark Sampang, the head of Dharan sub-metropolitan city. Journalist Federation Sunsari Branch handed over a letter of attention to the Home Minister who arrived in Dharan to participate in a program on Friday.
Branch Secretary Dhruv Dhakal said that when Mayor Sampang repeatedly made threatening statements against journalists, he drew the attention of the Home Minister saying that there was no working environment and journalists were unsafe.
Former President of Sunsari Federation of Journalists, Harsh Subba, asked the Home Minister to be serious, saying that despite Sampang repeatedly threatening journalists, no action was taken by the police and administration. Home Minister Akbar mentioned that democracy and press are complementary to each other and said that as long as the press is free, democracy will be alive.
A complaint has also been lodged against Sampang at the local police office in Dharan on Friday. The district president of the branch, Janakrishi Rai and the national council member of the federation, Gopal Dahal, filed a complaint with the police demanding necessary action along with peace and security.
On Wednesday, Sampang threatened Rai and Dahal through social media. Chairman Rai said that they filed a complaint because they were insecure with his expression.
Dahal wrote a news story titled 'Hark Sampang's whimsical rule, Bethiti's swamp dharan' for the Center for Investigative Journalism. Aiming at the same news, Chief Sampang threatened Rai and Dahal through social media.
