Hark Sampang (Hark Raj Rai), the head of Sunsari-based Dharan sub-metropolitan city, contacted Janakrishi Rai, Sunsari president of Nepal Journalist Federation and Gopal Dahal, member of the national council of the Federation, through social media Facebook. The Federation of Nepalese Journalists has drawn attention to the incident of threatening by writing a status.
After the news that journalist Gopal Dahal wrote about Hark Sampang was published in the investigative journalism center (Khopke), the head of the Sampang posted on social media, "Gopal Dahal or any representative of the investigative journalism center should appear at the green tea of Dharan 18 tomorrow at 10 o'clock". Otherwise, if you don't end your investigative journalism, my name is not Hark Sampang.' He wrote a threatening status on social media. The general secretary of the
Federation, Rosen Puri, issued a statement on Thursday and said that Mayor Rai has violated the freedom of the press while maintaining the established provision that if you are not satisfied with the news, you can go to the legal process or file a complaint with the Press Council of Nepal.
General Secretary Puri has said, "...this action by a responsible person like a public official is a violation of press freedom as well as being reprehensible". It is the determination of the federation to reach. The federation demands the relevant agencies to respect the constitutional rights of the press and to create an environment that does not allow this kind of incident to happen again.'
