Chitwan Police has brought Ravi Lamichhan, former Home Minister and Member of Parliament for Chitwan-2, Central Chairman of Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA) to Chitwan today, Tuesday, to take a statement regarding the misappropriation of savings of Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative.
Chitwan police said that Lamichhane was taken to the district police office from Bharatpur airport. Statements are being taken in Rupandehi and Kathmandu along with Kaski where Lamichhane, who is under investigation by the Kaski police, is being investigated for misappropriation of other co-operative funds.
Chitwan Police brought former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Chabilal Joshi and another accused Ram Bahadur Khanal to Bharatpur on Sunday and took their statement to the public prosecutor's office. Joshi and Khanal were also in Kaski police custody. Victim savers of Sahara Chitwan Multi-Purpose Cooperative have filed a complaint saying that the savings of the cooperative were invested against the rules in various companies of Gitendra Bahadur (GB) Rai, the founder of Chitwan Sahara, including Gorkha Media.
Ravi Lamichhane is the then shareholder, director and managing director of Gorkha Media and Chabilal Joshi is the then shareholder and director of Gorkha Media. Savers have mentioned in the complaint that Sahara Chitwan has invested 108 million rupees in Gorkha Media Network against the rules. Ram Bahadur Khanal is the shareholder and director of Nature Herbs International Pvt Ltd, another company of GB Rai.
It is mentioned in the complaint that Sahra Chitwan has invested 9 crore 73 lakh rupees in Nature Herbs International Pvt. The savers of Sahara Chitwan filed a complaint with the Chitwan Police on October 9, 2080 for investigation and action. But the investigation did not progress much. Chitwan police had already filed a case against 17 people in Chitwan district court on October 8th as the deadline for filing the case was approaching. In which there was no name of Ravi and image.
On the same day as the case was filed, the District Attorney's Office (Government Attorney) instructed the police to further investigate Gorkha Media, where the funds of the cooperative were found to have gone. 24 savers of Sahara Chitwan filed a complaint against 10 people including Ravi Lamichhane and Chabilal Joshi on Wednesday, November 5, asking for an investigation into fraud and organized crime. An arrest warrant was issued against them on November 7.
When the case was filed last October, District Attorney Shanti Prasad Luintel said that out of the amount deposited in the Global IME Bank account of Gorkha Media, which is said to have gone from the Sahara Chitwan Multi-Purpose Cooperative, how and with whom was the transaction of 47 million rupees, the law in this regard did not appear to have been received. He instructed the police to conduct further investigation accordingly.
It is mentioned in the indictment filed last October that 376 million 65 million 84 thousand 546 rupees should be paid to the 446 victim savers who filed a complaint with the police. The Chitwan police investigation showed that the savings of 52.32 million 85 thousand 308 rupees were accumulated in the cooperative. There are 6 thousand 334 savers.
Chitwan police has not caught anyone in this case due to its own activism. Earlier, the Kaski police had taken custody of Kumar Ramtel, who was in pre-trial detention, and the Chitwan police had brought him to Bharatpur last August and taken his statement. GB Rai, who is considered the main accused in this case, has left the country and fled abroad. A red corner notice has also been issued against him.
