Out of the voting results till 11:00 pm on Sunday night, 6 Congress candidates were elected, 3 UML candidates and 1-1 Maoist and Nemkipa candidates were elected.
According to the Election Commission, about 62 percent votes were cast in the by-elections held on Sunday for 41 vacant posts at the local level. Voting was done for one municipality head, one deputy head, two rural village presidents, four vice presidents and 33 ward presidents.
Nita Pokhrel Aryal, spokeswoman of the Commission, said that the counting of votes has started in most places since Sunday evening.
Out of the voting results till 11:00 pm on Sunday, 6 candidates were elected as Congress, 3 UML candidates and 1-1 Maoist and Nemkipa candidates. Dhansingh Kunwar of Congress has been elected as the ward president of Duhun rural municipality-5 of Darchula.
Kunwar got 376 votes and nearest competitor Mansingh Badal of UML got 358 votes. Chief Electoral Officer Pushparaj Pandey said that Veer Singh Karki of Maoist got 98 votes while Lal Singh Kunwar, an independent candidate, got 25 votes. Out of the 877 votes cast in the ward with 1272 voters, 20 have been invalidated.
Similarly, Khadakraj Shahi of Nemkipa has won the Ward President of Tilagufa-4 in Kalikot. He defeated Maoist's Nainshova Shahi by 28 votes. Khadak Nemkipa, who won the ward president in 2074, is also the district president.
She got 143 votes while Maoist Nainshova got 115 votes. UML's Ain Bahadur Shahi got 78 votes, Congress's Pail Bahadur Shahi got 49 votes, while RPP and Rashtriya Swatantra Party candidates got only 15/15 votes. 4 votes are void. The bail of RPP and RSWP candidates has been confiscated.
Bhupamani of Congress has been elected as the ward president of Runtigadhi rural municipality-4 in Rolpa by getting 643 votes. His nearest rival Begum Pun of UML has got 535 votes. In the previous elections, there was a difference of 8 votes between Congress and UML candidates.
1297 votes were cast in this ward with 1900 voters. The by-election was held after Tank Bahadur Pun, who was elected from Congress in 2079, died last June.
UML's Ganga Bahadur Tamang has won as the ward chairman of Molung rural municipality-5 in Okhaldhunga by getting 399 votes. Ghanshyam Dahal of Congress got 177 votes and Bishnu Prasad Pokharel of RSVP got 151 votes. Maoist's Man Bahadur Sunuwar got 23 votes.
Congress's Motiram Khatri has won Saniveri-5 in Rukum West. Khatri was elected as the ward president by getting 590 votes. His closest competitor, Jasiram Basnet of Maoist got 537 votes. Congress also won in the election of 2079 in that ward.
Similarly, Congress candidate Khamba Bahadur Singh has won in Kushe Rural Municipality-7 of Jajarkot. He was elected ward president after defeating Maoist's Gorakh Bahadur Gharti. Singh got 347 votes while Gharti got 332 votes. In the ward with 1,302 voters, 956 votes were cast. UML's Gorakh Bahadur Nepali got 252 votes.
Congress's Mohan Thapa has won the ward chairmanship of Purvi Chowki rural municipality-6 in Doti by getting 468 votes. His nearest competitor Dev Thapa of UML got 310 votes. Devi Lal Thapa of Maoist got 26 votes and Janaki Khadka Kunwar of RSVP got 31 votes.
Similarly, Maoist Bishnu Bahadur Magar has been elected as the ward president of Gorkha municipality-5 with 486 votes. Bhaikaji of Congress got 402 votes, Durgamaya Thapa Rana of UML got 345 votes and Mangal Bahadur Thapa of RSVP got 82 votes.
UML's Lal Bahadur Shahi has won as the ward president of Dullu municipality-13 in Dailekh. He got 574 votes. Resham Bahadur Shahi of Congress got 571 votes, Dhakendra Bahadur Shahi of Maoist got 278 votes, Ram Bahadur Shahi of RSVP got 53 votes.
Similarly, Sheikh Abdul Khaliq of Congress has been elected as the ward president of Rautahat's Ishanath Municipality-7 by getting 627 votes. His competitor Sheikh Anwar of UML got 575 votes, Sadre Alam of United Samajwadi Party got 452 votes, and Sheikh Zamirul Haque of Janmat Party got 135 votes.
UML's Sakibul Khan has won the election of the ward president of Ramgopalpur Municipality-2 in Mahottari by getting 631 votes. His rival Aiti Kumari Yadav of Maoist got 534 votes.
In the by-election, out of 25 registered political parties, 20 candidates were nominated. 376 candidates from political parties and independents are in competition. There were two lakh 26 thousand 799 voters in the final voter list of municipalities and wards where by-elections were held.
Congress candidate was elected unopposed as the head of two vacant District Coordination Committees. Tekraj Bhattarai in Jesus Okhaldhunga and Tikakumari Chaudhary (Bhool) were elected unopposed in Kailali. Chaudhary has taken the oath of office and secrecy on Sunday.
Similarly, Maoist's Jagat Gharti has been elected unopposed as the ward president of Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-2 in Rukum (East).
