A courtesy meeting was held between the Nepalese and Chinese delegations who reached Geneva to participate in the General Assembly of the Inter-Legislative Association.
A meeting was held between the Nepali parliamentary team led by National Assembly Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal and the Chinese team led by Vice Chairman of Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee of the Chinese People's Congress Tian Suizhan on Tuesday afternoon in Geneva, Switzerland. In the meeting, Nepal-China bilateral relations, parliamentary practice, experience sharing and cooperation in international forums were discussed, according to the Secretariat of President Dahal.
In the meeting between the parliamentary delegations of the two countries, National Assembly Speaker Dahal discussed the historical dimensions of Nepal-China relations and said that Nepal will always be a good neighbor of China. Chairman Dahal said that not only the political relations between the two countries but also the social and cultural relations are strong at the people's level.
Recalling that the then president of the Chinese People's Congress visited Nepal in 2022, President Dahal said that cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries would be an opportunity to exchange each other's experiences and learn good practices. Dahal mentioned that China's support for Nepal's development is continuing and that they are confident that the amount of support will increase in the future. He said, 'Nepal has set the goal of being upgraded from a less developed country in 2026. To make this goal sustainable, irreversible and easy, the cooperation and goodwill of the friendly countries is our priority . We believe that China will have significant support in this .'
The Chinese delegation's chief committee vice-chairman Tian Suizun said that he wants to cooperate with the Chinese National People's Congress and the Parliament of Nepal in various fields and expand relations through the parliamentary friendship group. He said that cooperation, exchange of visits and observations between the parliaments of the two countries will facilitate the understanding of parliamentary practices, traditions and procedures and help to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
China has said that it will help Nepal to the best of its ability and as much as possible. He said that through BRI, he wants to help in infrastructure development projects including roads and railways. The meeting was attended by MPs and representatives from the delegations of both countries.
