The government is ready to raise the retirement age of flight attendants from 45 years to 50 years. After Saturday's discussion with the protesting cabin crew, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Pandey has said that he has come to the conclusion of revising the retirement age.
After discussing with the cabin crew members who are protesting against the operation of the aircraft on Saturday, Minister Pandey instructed the corporation to increase the retirement age of cabin crew from 45 to 50. Minister Pandey stated that the cabin crew members were discriminated against, they were deprived of various services and facilities and their demands were not heard.
Pandey said that the government took their demands seriously and solved the problem. The age limit has been fixed at 45 years in the regulations. He was shocked by that . Then he said that he was in trouble about what to do. From today we have reached the conclusion that we will address some issues and asked the corporation to go this way . There have been some final orders in the court regarding their cases, for clarity, they have one opinion, the corporation has one opinion, for clarity, there is no problem in taking the opinion of the Attorney General's Office through the ministry, increasing the age limit of 45 years to 50 years,' Pandey said, 'Nepal's In the context, our average life expectancy has also increased. They have had various experiences and training, the investment in the corporation through the various trainings of the corporation has become huge. It is concluded that when an airhostess with 5 years of experience serves, it will do the country and the corporation good . We have reached the goal of increasing the age limit of 45 to 50 . We have told the management of the corporation to do that.'
After Minister Pandey said that the age limit would be raised to 50 years, the cabin crew who affected the flights of Nepal Airlines will go back to work by protesting . Due to the strike of the cabin crew, Nepal Airlines Corporation's Kathmandu-Dubai flight at 11.30 pm on Friday night was cancelled. As a result, 328 passengers were stranded.
Nepal Airline Cabin Crew Association, an organization of nurses/attendants working in the corporation, filed a writ application in the Supreme Court in December 2080 stating that there is discrimination in the provision of mandatory leave after 45 years. The issue has not been resolved. They have been on strike since October 16 after the corporation did not renew the contract of the cabin crew who had reached the age of 45.
