Devkumar Nepali, mayor of Baglung's Dhorpatan municipality, who has been absconding since May 2080 after misappropriating the funds of cooperative savers, has been arrested from New Delhi, India.
He was arrested by the Indian Police from New Delhi on Friday at the request of the Nepal Police, informed Inspector General of Police Tek Prasad Rai on behalf of the Nepal Police.
According to him, the necessary diplomatic process to bring the arrested Nepalis to Nepal has been initiated. In January 2080, at the request of the Nepal Police, Interpol issued a red notice against the Nepalese.
He was absconding after opening Image Cooperative in Baglung and Pokhara and embezzling the savings. Although a case was filed against some other directors and employees involved in this cooperative case, he was out of the scope of action.
He is the founder president of Image Cooperative. The case that cooperative operators including him have embezzled more than one and a half billion from more than 1,500 savers is pending in the Baglung District Court.
District Public Prosecutor's Office Baglung filed a case against him and 11 people in the district court on 25 June 2080 . Nepali was elected mayor from UML in the local elections of 079.
