The Nepal Bar Association also protested on Wednesday saying that the Judicial Council is going to recommend the appointment of judges against the provisions of the Constitution.

The bar protested that Chief Justice Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, who is about to retire, is going to appoint a new judge based on the judicial council rules that are against the provisions of the constitution.

Legal professionals held a protest program at the office of Nepal Bar Association on Wednesday. Bar President Senior Advocate Gopalkrishna Ghimire said that the Justice Council had decided to convene a meeting for the recommendation of the appointment of a judge.

A task force was formed to solve the problems seen in relation to the Justice Council Regulations. Bar President Ghimire says that after trying to proceed with the unconstitutional step of recommending the appointment of judges from the meeting of the Judicial Council without putting any topic in the working group, they were forced to take the decision to continue the protest program including sit-ins.

"Nepal Bar Association has been talking for a year in opposition to the unconstitutional regulations of the Judicial Council, and the regulations were amended to be contrary to (1) and (3) of Article 141 of the Constitution". As the Nepal Bar Association did not listen to it for a year, we were forced to sit on the day of the Judicial Council meeting,'' said Ghimire. Because of what we have done, we have been forced to hold a warning meeting.'

Chairman Ghimire says that if the demands of the bar are ignored, Ghimire will do more agitation. "Nepal Bar Association is continuously organizing programs against this unconstitutionality." We may, if the judges are appointed, we can also bring a program of boycott of those judges . Tomorrow we sit again.'

Ghimire has said that he will sit in the Supreme Court because the Nepal Bar is going to call a meeting of the Council of Justice and make appointments based on regulations that are against the constitution.
