UML has dismissed UML standing committee member Mani Thapa, who has an ex-Maoist background. UML dismissed him from his post at the secretariat meeting on Thursday, saying that he has been inactive in the party for a long time.
Thapa was inactive in the party after disagreeing with the working style and ideas of the original leadership of UML (KP Sharma Oli). The constitution of the party has a provision for absenteeism in three consecutive meetings without notice. As he has been inactive for a long time in the party's work, he has automatically been relieved of his post," Standing Committee Member and Head of Publicity Department Rajendra Gautam said, "Maniji did not work in the party's work even in the last election. He may be more busy in creating literature.'
Thapa mentioned that he resigned last year. The main thing of the party is the idea and the way of working. I had resigned because I could not agree to that," he said. "The UML delayed accepting it. It has been approved, it's good.'
Thapa says that there is no point in sitting there if you cannot agree with the leadership's ideas and actions. He also said that the political direction taken by UML was not as expected. He said that he will focus on politics in the coming days as well. "I will remain in pro-people politics," he said. Thapa left the party work and launched a nation-wide public awareness cultural campaign in Baisakh last year. Oli was dissatisfied with his activities.
Thapa was made Minister of Water Supply on 10 December 2077 after the then CPN Chairman and Prime Minister Oli dissolved the House of Representatives. Thapa remained in the UML after the separation of the UML and the Maoist Center in February 2077 by the order of the Supreme Court. At that time, he was dissatisfied with the working style of the Chairman of Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal. UML's November 2078 Chitwan convention elected Thapa as a permanent committee member. But after that he became inactive in party work. He did not stand in the last general election either.
During the Maoist armed conflict, Thapa was in charge of literature and music section in the party. But he left the Maoists before the peace process and rejoined after the Maoists came into the mainstream. There is talk of Thapa Netravikram Chand joining Nepal Communist Party. "But I am not thinking of joining any party right away," said Thapa.
At present, Vice President Ram Bahadur Thapa of ex-Maoist background, Secretary Lekhraj Bhatt are in important positions in UML, while Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamazhi is suspended after being caught in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees. UML has already removed Rayamazhi's name from the party's website.
