The parliament building, which was built in Singha Darbar with the aim of holding the first parliament meeting after the 2079 House of Representatives election, is still incomplete. The contract agreement was signed on October 16, 2076, saying that the construction work could be completed by October 16, 2079. But so far the progress of construction work has reached only 81 percent.
After the work was not completed within the stipulated time, the deadline was extended for the fourth time till 081 Chait 18 last June. Machakaji Maharjan, Project Director of the Special Building Project Coordination Office, said that the work is being done within the extended deadline.
When asked if the construction work will be completed so that the parliament meeting after the 2084 elections can be held in the new building, Singh Darbar, Maharjan says, 'If the builders work quickly, the work will be completed before then. After the work was not completed according to the initial agreement, the deadline was extended for the first time till the middle of March 079 . Even though the deadline has been extended time and again, the project office is doubtful about the completion of the construction of the Parliament building. "We are pressuring the builders to complete the work quickly," He said, "Everyone's attention is on the construction of the Parliament building, now if the work is not completed even within the extended time, we will go to break the contract." The work should be completed by 081 June, but the work has not been completed yet. The special building construction project coordination office said that the contract for building construction and interior/furnishing in the second phase has been awarded.
Although the construction and interior contracts are not done at the same time, the office claims that all the work is not done at the same time. Its initial contract is 5 billion 68 crore 39 lakh rupees. Now its cost has been revised to 6 billion 30 million rupees.
Its contract was taken by Tundi-Sec JV. So far, 4 billion 42 crore rupees have been spent on the construction. According to the project, structures such as the House of Representatives, National Assembly, Common Lobby, office buildings for highly distinguished persons, parliamentary party office buildings, parliamentary committee buildings, and parliamentary secretariat buildings are being constructed. On the other hand, after being elected as Speaker of the National Assembly, the first task is to inspect the Parliament building and give instructions.
The Minister of Urban Development does not stop inspecting the Parliament building again and again . Again, the first job of the new urban minister is to inspect the parliament building and give instructions to complete the work quickly. Following the same tradition, the Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakashman Singh inspected on Tuesday and instructed the project manager and construction professionals to complete the work within the specified time.
