The then KP Sharma Oli-led government recommended Sumitra Subedi (Bhandari) of Oli's hometown Damak, who was proposed as ambassador to Denmark in June 2078, as the head of Madhesh province on Monday.
In May 2078, when the minority government led by KP Oli recommended ambassadors to 11 different countries, Bhandari, an old activist of UML, was offered the ambassadorship of Denmark. However, the Oli government collapsed after the Supreme Court gave 'permission' to Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to become the Prime Minister. With the fall of the government, Bhandari's process of becoming an ambassador ended.
Sources claim that 62-year-old Bhandari, who prefers to call herself a full-time political worker of UML, was made the head of Madhesh on the proposal of UML President Oli. "The complaint to the President was that Bhandariji could not be made an ambassador", a leader said, "that is why he was made the head of the province."
Bhandari, who has been the president of All Nepal Women's Association three times in Jhapa district, has experience of working in organizations such as Nepal Family Planning Association, Damak-based Drinking Water Consumer Committee, and District Education Committee. A UML leader said that he is loyal to the party, constantly active and dedicated worker.
She left the teaching profession to join politics and expressed her happiness when she became the head of Madhesh.
