The Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) reported that more than 9,000 people were subjected to human rights violations and abuses in 2023. In the Human Rights Year Book-2024 published by INSEC on Monday, it is mentioned that 9,388 people were victims of human rights violations and abuses in 2023.
In the year 2023 (December 17, 2079 to December 15, 2080), a total of 988 victims of human rights violations including 146 women and 842 men are mentioned in the INSEC report.
Similarly, the report mentions that 7 thousand 716 women, 2 LGBTIQ and 682 men were victims of atrocities. Insec stated that 7 thousand 376 people were victims of human rights violations and atrocities in 2022. In the year 2023, this number is 2 thousand 12 people more than the year 2022.
In 2023, 6 people were killed by the state. Similarly, INSEC records that 2 people were victims of torture, 240 people were arrested, 62 people were victims of racial discrimination, 414 people were beaten, 31 people were subjected to inhuman treatment, and 555 people were victims of the right to assemble and organize.
According to INSEC records, 2 people died in police custody and 51 people died in prison. It is also mentioned that 2 prisoners died due to police torture and beating in Sankhuwasabha prison. Similarly, the INSEC report mentions that one person has disappeared from the state side and 2 people have disappeared from the other side.
