The Public Works Department has stated that the chairs, which are made of a mixture of iron and wood, have been kept after being repaired and painted because the wood needs to be replaced.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced that it has started putting public benches for pedestrians on the Bhadrakali road section near the main administrative center, Singha Durbar, back in their original locations after repairs.

The Department of Public Works has stated that the chairs made of iron and wood had to be replaced after being repaired and painted.

After Balendra Shah resigned as mayor, videos were recently going viral on social media saying that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City had removed the chairs placed for pedestrians.

After criticism and various comments started coming in, the metropolis clarified that the chairs had been removed for maintenance and management.     A total of 140 public chairs had been placed in various places within the metropolis since Asoj 2081. Out of these, 11 chairs have been placed on the pedestrian path from Bhadrakali to Singha Durbar road section. In addition, chairs were placed in places such as Bagmati, Bagmati River corridor, Guheshwari, Koteshwar, Kalmoch and others.

The metropolis has stated that more chairs will be placed in the coming days. The metropolis has said that in the second phase, 49 chairs will be placed at places including the Survey Department, Tinkune Koteshwor Khand, Ratna Park, Maitighar, Bawarmahal, Kamalpokhari. Similarly, in the third phase, 150 chairs will be placed at various places based on demand and need, the metropolis has also said.
