Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol has been appointed as the acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Dangol has been given the responsibility of acting mayor immediately after the mayor of the metropolis, Balendra Shah, resigned from his post. According to the Local Government Operation Act-2074, there is a provision that the deputy mayor will automatically become acting mayor after the mayor resigns from his post. Sunita has become acting mayor in accordance with the same act. He had reached the party office of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) immediately after resigning. He left there within 10 minutes. Today, the central committee of the RSS is holding a meeting. After the meeting, Shah and other leaders, along with party president Ravi Lamichhane, are preparing to go to Janakpur for an election program. Shah is preparing to contest from Jhapa-5 in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
