The British Council is organizing the ‘South Asia Teaching English Online Conference 2026’ with the participation of teachers, researchers and education experts from South Asia. The free online conference, which will be held from July 23 to 25, will discuss how creativity, inclusivity and technology can empower students to adapt to a changing global environment.
According to the British Council, experts from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will share experiences on how creativity can be used as a basis for effective learning in the classroom. In addition, ways to create an inclusive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, innovative teaching methods, student participation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a complement to human-centered teaching will also be discussed.
The conference is being organized amid the challenge of South Asian education systems to balance curriculum expectations, effective assessment and the changing needs of students. While English remains an important medium for educational, academic and professional opportunities, the conference will emphasize that teaching should no longer be limited to language learning but should focus on developing critical thinking, collaboration, student autonomy and ownership of learning.
The conference will feature keynote presentations, experience-based discussions and classroom best practices. Participants will be able to learn about local solutions to common educational challenges in South Asia and effective teaching practices.
Rustom Modi, Country Director of the British Council Nepal, said that creativity plays a key role in developing skills such as effective communication, collaboration and critical thinking. He expressed confidence that the conference would inform teachers and education stakeholders about research-based approaches, practical exercises and strategies that can be implemented in the classroom.
