Nepal's leading payment system operator PhonePe has also added UnionPay International to its QR scheme. The collaboration was announced at a special event organized in Kathmandu.

The company said that with this, UnionPay users from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and others will be able to easily make payments through QR at more than 2 million PhonePe QR merchants across Nepal. PhonePe CEO Divas Kumar said that the integration of UnionPay International into the PhonePe network is a significant achievement.

UnionPay is one of the world's largest card and payment networks. The company claims that through the collaboration with PhonePe, UnionPay users will now be able to make digital payments as easily as in their own country at more than 2 million merchant touchpoints across Nepal.

All merchants accepting digital payments through PhonePe QR will now be able to easily receive payments from international customers using the UnionPay app.
