Art Studio has opened a new wing in Nakbahil, Patan. Art Studio has also organized a pop-up exhibition called (On)Scene to mark the opening of the wing.

The exhibition, which opened last Friday, features artworks created by 21 young people with autism.

The exhibition, curated by Artudio founder Kailash K Shrestha, demonstrates Artudio’s commitment to inclusiveness and community-centered creative practice, according to a statement issued by Artudio.

(On)Scene was born as a result of workshops conducted at Artudio and Autism Care Nepal Society in collaboration with Aakar Foundation, the statement said. The artworks presented here are created through trust, research, patience, and easy experimentation.

Each artwork reflects the personal world of the participating artists, where the original feelings and perspectives they have seen are presented through line, touch, color, abstract shapes, rhythm, and visual structures,’ the statement said.

The title (On)Scene refers to the ability to understand art, creation, and emotions, which are often left out within traditional art or social structures. The exhibition is said to invite viewers to observe slowly, observe sensitively, and connect emotionally with expressions that transcend linguistic or academic boundaries, the program said.

‘(On)Scene is not an exhibition about autism, it is an exhibition of artists who understand and show the world in their own way,’ said curator Kailash K Shrestha, ‘Their practice exposes art as a means of identity and a field of possibility, where external rules do not hinder.’

The inauguration of Art Studio’s Patan Wing was also attended by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan. He said that Patan itself has a huge museum and is known as a temple of art.
