A cooperation agreement has been signed between the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Rampur, Chitwan and the Nepal Agricultural Cooperative Central Union (NEFSCUN) on multifaceted issues in the agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry and cooperative sectors.

According to the agreement, the association and more than 1,300 cooperative member farmers in the association's network will exchange achievements in agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry and cooperative sectors and collaborate on new practices that can be adopted in the coming days.

The agreement was signed by Rudra Bahadur Shrestha, General Manager of the association, and Prof. Dr. Sharada Thapaliya, on behalf of the university.

After the agreement, Khem Bahadur Pathak, President of the association, and Shivchandra Dhakal, Director of the Planning Directorate of the university, expressed their belief that this agreement will prove to be a milestone in the development of Nepal's agriculture and animal husbandry sector.

The agreement mentions the development and implementation of joint projects on topics such as sustainable agriculture, seed production, climate change adaptation, cooperative development, biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, disaster risk management, food security, organic farming, agri-tourism, enterprise development, market, renewable energy research, policy advocacy and knowledge and information flow.

Similarly, technical and managerial capacity building programs will be conducted for cooperative members, farmers, association employees, and university faculty and staff.

According to the agreement, university students will be provided with research, thesis, internship and training opportunities in the cooperatives affiliated with the association, and after joint research, collaboration will be done in journal publication.

The agreement states that policy dialogues, seminars and workshops related to agri-food systems, agricultural cooperatives and rural transformation will be conducted. In addition, the agreement also includes a provision to facilitate the operation of educational programs related to agriculture, forestry and natural resources, and to exchange expertise, data and best practices in the agricultural and forestry sectors, a statement issued by the association states.
